Scholarship Opportunities Through PSA

All opportunities listed below require that the applicant be attending a United States based institution of study in order to be considered. Applications that do not abide by this qualification will not be considered.

Background: Aviagen North America sponsors this $5,000 scholarship, payable over four semesters ($1,250 per semester) to be awarded to a rising Sophomore or Junior undergraduate student in the field of Poultry Science. This Endowed Scholarship will primarily be awarded based upon scholastic achievement and service, as well as an interest/knowledge of the role the poultry industry plays in feeding the world’s growing population. In addition, preference will be given to those who intend to pursue graduate education in poultry science or a related field.

 

Timeline/Details: The applicant should be a rising Sophomore or Junior at the time of application. The scholarship will be awarded each semester beginning in the Fall of the student’s Junior year ($1,250 per semester) up to four semesters, subject to satisfactory academic progress. The deadline for application is March 1st each year. A committee of four Poultry Science Association members and one Aviagen North America representative will review submitted applications and select the scholarship recipient.

 

Application Materials and Judging Criteria: Each application must consist of a complete resume which documents education, community service activities, honors and awards, and work experience; unofficial transcript; one letter of recommendation, and an original essay or up to 500 words describing:

a.     The importance of the poultry industry in feeding the world

b.     Graduate school goals

c.     Career goals

 

Applications will be evaluated with emphasis on poultry-related career/education goals and the written essay.

The Diamond V Endowed Undergraduate Poultry Science Scholarship awards an undergraduate student studying poultry science a $1,250 per semester scholarship for up to four (4) semesters. Students are to be a sophomore or a junior at the time of applying.

This award is based on academic achievement and service, as well as an interest/knowledge of the role the poultry industry plays in feeding the world’s growing population. In addition, preference will be given to those who intend to pursue a graduate education in poultry science or related field.

The selected recipient must:

  • Hold an active student membership with the Poultry Science Association.
  • Be studying poultry science.
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.2.
  • Be in sophomore or junior credit standing at the time of applying.
    (Sophomore recipients will receive 4 semesters worth of funding; junior recipients will receive 2 semesters of funding. Funding begins the fall semester of the year after applying.)
  • Be attending a United States based institution of study.

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote diversity in the poultry science industry. The $5,000 scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student with sophomore or junior credit standing at the time of applying. The student is to be able to demonstrate an academic interest in the field of Poultry Science and belonging to gender, racial or ethnic groups that have been historically under-represented in the United States. The selected recipient will be based upon scholastic achievement and service and an interest in continuing to learn and promote the role of the poultry industry in feeding the world’s growing population. In addition, preference will be given to those who intend to pursue a graduate education in poultry science or related fields.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications to apply:

  • Student is to be in sophomore or junior credit standing at the time of applying and be able to demonstrate an academic interest in the field of poultry science.
  • Belong to a gender, racial or ethnic group has been historically under-represented in the United States.
  • Applicants are to be attending a U.S. Based Institution of Study

Membership with PSA is not required but is encouraged.
