PSA Foundation

The Foundation is a committee of the Poultry Science Association. The primary purpose of the Foundation is to advance the founding principles of the Poultry Science Association by providing financial support for specific components and activities of the Poultry Science Association and its members.

Goals of the PSA Foundation

The general goals of the Foundation are to (1) provide financial support for unique educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students such as scholarships and fellowships; (2) provide financial support for enhancing targeted faculty initiatives specifically benefiting the industry and the Poultry Science Association; (3) provide financial support for special needs activities of the Poultry Science Association, such as symposia and conferences; (4) provide financial support for lectureships in addressing specific concerns/issues of importance to the global community; and (5) other specific needs as identified by the Board of Directors.

Andrew F. Giesen III Undergraduate Internship Awards

These $1,500 awards are given to financially support students who have secured an internship for the year the awards are given. These funds are to assist students with travel, room and board, and other related expenses accumulated with their internship. Consideration will be given based on financial needs associated with the internship (e.g., airfare and travel, short-term housing, and other expenses not covered by the employer), as well as what impact the student expects the internship to have on his/her future career.

Arthur W. Perdue Graduate Fellowships

The purpose of this award is to support graduate education and research in poultry house enrichment and welfare in broiler chickens. However, innovative applied and basic aspects of poultry science will be considered. The award provides $150,000 in funding over the course of a three-year period. The intent is to provide timely and relevant research of benefit to the poultry industry and to prepare the next generation of graduate scholars for careers in poultry science, education, and the poultry industry. Funding is subject to satisfactory progress.

Merck Endowed Graduate Fellowship

Provides funding for three years for students pursuing a PhD with a focus on poultry health.

Cobb-Vantress Graduate Fellowship

The purpose of this fellowship is to provide funding over the course of a three-year period to an outstanding student currently pursuing a PhD in the poultry sciences. A total of $37,500 will be distributed over the three-year period and is subject to satisfactory progress. The selected recipient will be directed in their study of poultry genetics by a faculty mentor and advisory committee to include a Cobb-Vantress scientist.

Priority emphasis for the proposed research project will focus on innovative, applied, and basic aspects of poultry science including such areas as genetics, genomics, genetic/environmental responses, immunology, and molecular genetics. 

Diamond V Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship

The Diamond V Endowed Undergraduate Poultry Science Scholarship awards an undergraduate student studying poultry science a $1,250 per semester scholarship for up to four (4) semesters. Students are to be a sophomore or a junior at the time of applying.

This award is based on academic achievement and service, as well as an interest/knowledge of the role the poultry industry plays in feeding the world’s growing population. In addition, preference will be given to those who intend to pursue a graduate education in poultry science or related field.

Dr. Fred A. Gardner Tribute Scholarship

(Texas A&M University)

This award serves to support qualified poultry science undergraduate students in the Department of Poultry Science at Texas A&M University. The scholarship is intended to support an undergraduate student entering his/her junior or senior year who has chosen Poultry Science as their field of study and has an expressed interest in graduate education for the M.S. and PhD.

Dr. James H. and Shirley H. Denton Memorial Scholarships

(Texas A&M University or the University of Arkansas)

This award serves to provide funding to a rising junior undergraduate at Texas A&M University and/or the University of Arkansas who have chosen Poultry Science as their field of study and have expressed an interest in graduate education for the M.S. and PhD. The family and friends of Dr. James H. Denton and the late Shirley H. Denton established this endowed scholarship.

Zinpro Corporation's Undergraduate Poultry Science Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote diversity in the poultry science industry. The up to $5,000 scholarship ($1,250 per semester) is awarded to an undergraduate student with sophomore or junior credit standing at the time of applying. The student is to be able to demonstrate an academic interest in the field of Poultry Science and belonging to gender, racial or ethnic groups that have been historically under-represented in the United States. The selected recipient will be based upon scholastic achievement and service and an interest in continuing to learn and promote the role of the poultry industry in feeding the world’s growing population. In addition, preference will be given to those who intend to pursue a graduate education in poultry science or related fields.
