Format
A symposium is generally a four-hour session, with 30 minutes for a break. The break is required to begin exactly two hours after the start of the symposium (i.e. morning
symposia will begin at 8:00 am with a break from 10:00 am to 10:30 am). Individual speaker presentations are generally 30-40 minutes in length. A complete proposal must include the title and
brief (800 characters) description of the symposium, the title of each individual presentation, name and affiliation of all presenters, length of each presentation, anticipated expenses (if
applicable), and anticipated sponsorship revenue to help pay the expenses.
Below is an example of the document that symposium presenters should submit for consideration.
Submission Procedure
Proposals will be reviewed by the Organizing Committee in early January and by the PSA Board of Directors at their January Board Meeting. Proposals will either be given final
approval or rejected at that meeting. The Organizing Committee will set the symposia schedule. The chair of each symposium will be informed of the day and time so the approved speakers can be
notified. Submission Deadline was Friday, January 15, 2021, at 11:59 pm Central Time.
Policy on Speaker Expenses
Chairs of symposia are encouraged to obtain funding from sponsors to cover all costs; fund-raising efforts should be conducted in coordination with the PSA Executive
Director to minimize duplicate solicitations. These funds are to be used to cover travel and expenses for speakers who may request reimbursement of travel
expenses. Please see the 2021 Policy on Symposia for complete information.
Publishing of Symposium Papers
It is required that all symposium presentations be published in either Poultry Science or The Journal of Applied Poultry Research.
The symposium chair must make a formal request to the Editor-in-Chief (with cc to the journal Managing Editor) by July 1 prior to the Conference. Please see the 2021 Policy on Symposia for more
