The Poultry Science Association Foundation (PSA Foundation) was pleased to recognize Mr. Austin Silva as the recipient of the 2019 Diamond V Endowed Scholarship. Mr. Silva, currently a junior POSC/ANSC dual major enrolled in the Department of Poultry Science at Texas A&M University was recognized by Dr. Jim Denton, Executive Director of the Poultry Science Association Foundation, at the reception hosted by Dr. David Caldwell, Department Head in Poultry Science at Texas A&M University.
“The Diamond V leadership team recognizes the need to invest in the future leaders of our feed and food industries.” said Dr. Hilary Pavlidis, Director, Poultry Research & Technical Services of Cargill’s Diamond V nutritional health business based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Diamond V Endowed Scholarship, supporting a student entering their junior year and renewable for the senior year subject to satisfactory academic progress, is designed to encourage promising scholars to continue studies at the graduate level in Poultry Science. The endowed scholarship was made possible through the PSA Foundation Charting Our Course – Securing Future Leadership for Poultry Campaign (Capital Campaign).
“The Diamond V business is committed to research excellence in poultry science to help modern animal agriculture meet the growing global protein demand as well as the critical need for sustainable agriculture worldwide,” Dr. Pavlidis said. “We are committed to investing in the future of our industry and its leaders and we believe that through this scholarship we will help prepare students for their future leadership roles within the poultry industry. This scholarship connects deeply with our core values and dedication as The Trusted Experts in Nutrition and Health®.”
PSA FOUNDATION CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
The Capital Campaign was launched by the PSA Foundation in January 2015 and aims to develop scientific leaders in subject matter areas, such as poultry genetics, health and nutrition, and food safety and quality, for the poultry enterprise and allied industry. Funds of the Capital Campaign are used to award undergraduate internships, undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, travel grants and preceptor/mentoring grants.
The PSA Foundation is a charitable corporation affiliated with the Poultry Science Association with the primary purpose of advancing the founding principles of PSA. Since its founding in 2004, the PSA Foundation has worked to support a variety of initiatives, such as the Legacy Project which digitized and indexed issues published since 1906 of Poultry Science, one of PSA’s journals.
