Appropriate reductions of the crude protein (CP) content of broiler diets has the potential to significantly improve the efficiency of nitrogen (N) utilization and consequently reduce nitrogen excretion to the environment. In addition, reducing excess dietary CP levels have been shown to be an effective tool to improve intestinal health and litter quality. Although this topic has been extensively investigated in the last decades, further reductions of CP levels are not always achieved under commercial conditions. In this presentation, we will provide a review of the latest researh that we have conducted and some insights on the challenges and opportunities we have seen in the implementation of these results into commericial practice in Latin America.
