PSA Hatchery's Student of the Year Award

Applications for Student of the Year through the PSA Hatchery are now being accepted. The purpose of this award is to recognize exceptional PSA student members in the time period of August 2022 to March 2023. The recipient of this award will receive a plaque and a $1,000 travel grant (additional details available below).

The 2023 Application Cycle will close on June 1, 2023 at 11:59 PM CDT.

Application Materials

• Maximum one page essay on involvement within PSA and the Hatchery including: PSA meeting attendance and PSA leadership roles and/or participation.
• A one page resume with a section highlighting publications and presentations.
• Letter of Recommendation (only ONE (1) is required, however the applicant may submit a maximum of two (2) and no more).
• Official/Unofficial Transcripts (optional).

Selection Criteria
Student of the year applications will be reviewed and a recipient will be selected based upon the following:

• Involvement within the Hatchery and Poultry Science Association
• Leadership positions, conference attendance
• Academic Achievement
• Publications/Presentations
• Published manuscripts
• Presentations at scientific meetings
• Letter of Recommendation (at least one is required, submitting a second is optional)

Application Review
After submission, the Hatchery Advisory Committee will review each submitted application and confirm that each has met the requirements of the award. Those applications meeting the requirements will be contacted with the decision (accept/decline) upon conclusion of the review process.

Award Funds & Plaque
Once the Selection Committee's decision has been made, each individual will be contacted within the week and notified of the decision (accept/reject). The award amount is $1,000 in the form of a travel grant to be used for qualifying expenses for any conference related to poultry science of the selected student’s field of study. The grant funds will be distributed by PSA in accordance with receipts that match the original grant approval. It is imperative original receipts are kept and mailed to PSA at 4114C Fieldstone Drive Champaign, IL 61822 within 30 days of the event. A plaque will be presented to the recipient at the PSA Hatchery Business Meeting as part of the 2023 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.
